For Smart Girls Group Summit, I was completely unsure of what to wear that fits the dress code. I mean come on, I’m a fourteen girl who was completely unsure of what “business casual” was. After some help with my friends, I decided on two conservative shift dresses. Most of the girls at the conference wore dresses but some stood out in “power uniforms” which I define as a nice pair of fitted pants, wedges/smaller heels, a patterned top, statement necklace and a blazer.

My friend Hannah P., (health writer for SGG’s online magazine) rocked her “power uniform” and looked stunning (check her out here). Also my friend Natalie from the PDX Prepster rocked a sassy jumpsuit that was so unique but totally worked.

For the first day, I wore a Maggy London dress (brand new with tags, super expensive, thrifted for $13), with arm candy and my monogram necklace. The second day I wore my Lilly shift from 8th grade formal, but I wish I hadn’t. While it did fit dress code, three other girls wore it so I wish I wore instead something unique.

While at the conference we had a session by Elaine Pouliot about how to act and look professionally. During her time she talked about approachable and professional colors for different scenarios. Lighter colors and “airy” materials are best in more casual situations where bold, sharp patterns with darker colors fit more serious situations.
