Ever since YWW I’ve fallen head over heel obsessed with slam poetry (& E. Hemingway, but that’s a whole other story). If you don’t know what it is, slam poetry is spoken word poetry based around stories or experiences that can be competitive. I’m in love with the concept – it’s like my passive aggressive blog posts but shorter & spoken. At camp there’s were so many amazing teens performing that it totally drew me in to search for some of the best slam poetry video. Most slam poetry is general complaining or about similar themes, seriously, but the hidden gems that are totally unique are awesome.

While I was on the airplane to NYC (where I am now!!!) I curated a few that are totally worth sharing.

Sarah Kay – If I Should Have A Daughter

This poem was first a TEDTalk and became super popular off of that, while the message is cool the performance is amazing. Her voice is on point and kick butt.

Jesse Parent – To The Boys Who Will One Day Date My Daughter

It shows the feelings of a totally real perspective & the marshmallow gun doesn’t hurt too.

Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye – An Origin Story
Imagine meeting someone who is so similar to you but you never met until college. Proof again: Sarah Kay is kick butt (Phil Kaye is adorkable).

I forgot to include this slam poetry spoof done by Tom Hanks about “Full House”

This was a seriously nerdy post on my part, let me know if you want more like this!

xoxo
