If you follow me on Twitter (which you should be, I think I’m hilarious. jk.) you’ll know that I spent my morning last week at the American Underground. It’s a hub of Google Entrepreneurship where you can go and work in office space. My dad works with some companies there so I took a field trip and fell in love. And by fell in love, I mean I am obsessed with their offices. Y’all if this is what nerd heaven is. Sign me up. In addition to nonstop tweeting, I also snapchatted the whole shebang which was possibly my best story ever. #sorrynotsorry. (BTW: Let me know if you want me to create a blog snapchat!)
I would have taken more high quality camera photos but it is an office so I didn’t want to be rude. The next time I visit I will definitely vlog it because y’all. This. Is. Cool.
You are greeted by a giant hanging hamburger statue, a sign welcoming you to the Google Entrepreneurship hub and an entire rack of razor scooters.
We first sat up in the rooftop deck because the weather was perfect. That meant lots of roof top selfies and videos and nerding out. The offices are in downtown Durham so I got somewhat of a city skyline and they have tons of really cool twinkly lights. *Cue the sorta stupid video of me twirling around*
After snooping around some more I found the coolest hidden corner with a little Star Wars nook. The really cool thing about the building is that there are so many “chill” spots. Almost every space that isn’t office is meant to be a really relaxed unique space. I’m not even that big of a Star Wars fan. I just saw a selfie opportunity with a fake character. While taking this photo, someone walked by and complimented me on my “selfie skills”.
Then I did some actual work & wrote some articles for Mode Media (my latest post will be linked below). Whilst jamming to Hannah Montana, as so many often do at fancy offices ;).
I went exploring againĀ & found the coolest loft/playground based off of Super Mario. Get this, there was a slide which connected to the floor above it. The only thing is, it’s a steep slide. So I ended up with rug burn (slide burn?) and some painful blisters. It was worth it.
Slide selfies deserve to be a thing
I then set up my work space to finish up my articles in “The Vault”. It used to be an old bank vault but is now a super hip office space that has a 1920’s feel. Pretty much that means super Instagram worthy. It has walls of televisions and looks like something straight out of a movie. I did actually do some work, shocking, I know.
& I took some photos with my DSLR:
Even their coffee tables matched everything perfectly.
I wandered all around the office trying to get a picture of these super funky lights. At the Kate Spade store on Madison Avenue they have the exact same lights and I was obsessed with them. (this photo took far too many takes and stares from office workers)
Seriously, it’s dream world and I’m obsessed. I wish I could have gotten more pictures but there’s a good chance I’ll be back!
xoxo
Mags
This is so cool Maggie! I never even knew this place existed. I can’t wait to go there one day!
Thank you Madison!! It’s seriously so cool!
