A family friend bought a perfume recently and this Hermes perfume sampler was the gift with purchase. She gave it to me to review on the blog, so sweet of her. I’m not a huge “big brand girl” especially Hermes, I just don’t have $2,000 to spend on a bracelet. So, I’m just a normal girl smelling things for fancy people. Pretty much. Before reading what they actually were supposed to smell like, I wrote my own thoughts to see if they sort of matched up. Relatively entertaining as I don’t use quite as many adjectives as the Hermes marketing department does.

Eau de mandarine ambree  – Described online as: a classic citrus scent with passion fruit and amber. My thoughts: When I saw the name “mandarine” I figured it’d be a super annoying sharp orange scent. I’m not too big of an “orange” gal and find the scent of them to be just gross, mainly because of the “Gojo” soap my middle school teacher used. This doesn’t have that strong gross scent but smells like a mixture of citrus and warmth (can warmth smell like something?).

Eau de neroli dore – Described online as: a citrus scent with saffron. My thoughts: really it had a strong gym locker room smell. I didn’t smell the citrus really, just sort of a pungent spice cabinet. Really, really strong and smelled almost too clean.

Eau De Narcisse Bleu – Described online as: A fresh raw scent compared to “A novella with contemporary, a very individual writing.” (Pretty much they compared a scent to a book, so I had to at least like it.) My thoughts: Really calming and almost reminded me of baby powder. It smells incredibly clean and comforting.

Eu d’Orange Verte – Described online as: Inspired by morning dew, with citrus zests  My thoughts: This perfume smells the most like the orange strong scent that makes my head hurt. It has a weird mixture of almost cinnamon snickerdoodle cookies (???), mint gum and oranges.

Eau De Pamplemousse Rose – Described online as: A classic liveliness and freshness of citrus fruits. My thoughts: really could have been a chic version of cleaning products or a really fancy soap. For some reason I am reminded of the small town in Massachusetts where I’m from, not sure why.

Eau De Gentaine Blanche – Described online as: Freshness, spirit, delicacy, bitterness (aka a lot of adjectives that  don’t really fit together?) My thoughts: A very floraly sweet citrus scent. Nothing too distinct about it and actually smells a lot like the other scents.

Eau De Rhubarbe Eclarte – Described online as: Bold, crisp, less citrus, smooth and velvety. My thoughts: By. Far. My favorite scent. It smells sweet without being sugary almost a cozy, bakery shop without the sickly vanilla scent. This one wasn’t as citrusy as others but almost had a bit of lemon to it.

I hope y’all enjoyed this kind of different post. Obviously, I’m not a “beauty”/ “makeup” expertise gal so this is not my department at all. This was fun to write, totally out of the “norm” from my usual rambles and was an interesting challenge.

xoxo
